NOWROC NEWS

May, 2009

There have been a few hosting service interruptions.  The hosting service I am using has been a very reliable service until recently, so I am hoping this is only a minor issue with either their high speed service provider, or their servers that will be corrected permanently in the near future.

The registration forms for the 2009 Shasta meet have been posted in the Calendar section of the web site.

Added two new members from Anchorage and Calgary.  Updated the Emergency Road List.

The hosting service has disappeared and a new service has been subscribed to.  If this keeps up I am going to look into setting up my own web server and host NOWROC and other sites here in my home.  I will set up the forum and add a photo album as time permits.

Because of a hosting service failure nowroc.org has been moved to another hosting service.  That caused the loss of all forum member information, and a few postings.  The forum had about 9 members at this time.  The forum has been installed and will return soon.  I picture hosting page is also anticipated at this time.  The hosting service has no limits on the amount of data stored on their servers, so hosting pictures here should be a good option.

Well things are starting to happen around NOWROC.  Two people have proposed runs, one on the back side of Mt. St. Helens.  Another about 50 miles East of Portland.  Dates have not been proposed at this time.  And a wine/cheese tasting or BBQ has been proposed in the second weekend of August near Corvallis, Oregon.  More info to come as it is made available.

To help people coordinate their activities and share planning duties I have added a FORUM to the NOWROC web page.  As with any forum it is up to the members to decide what you will do with the forum.  Lets see what you do with it.  If you would like to suggest additions or changes to the forum let me know and I will be happy to see what I can do.

The EVENTS page has been updated and includes a new run in Northern California called RUN FOREST RUN.  It sounds like fun and sponsored by DATSUN510.COM.  Take a look if you are interested.  I have also updated the motel information for the Shasta meet and added a caravan table to see if people will use it to find others traveling to Shasta at the same time they will be going and form caravans.

NOWROC IS BACK ONLINE WITH IT'S OWN DOMAIN NAME.  nowroc.org is the new domain name of NOWROC.  There is quite a bit of work to do, but most of the pages are back and starting to work.

NOWROC has been down for a while.  Daniel Beatty has uploaded all of the web files to Tom Hendricksen.  That is all files other than many of the photographs and other images, which may be lost due to a hard drive failure.  A new domain name has been registered, nowroc.org, and will come up soon.  Links have been tried, researched, and updated where possible.  NOWROC is starting to live again.

The hosting service was changed to a new hosting service, DigitalCityHosting.  The reason for the change was a repetitive trojan that kept coming back on every site hosted at the former hosting service.  The former hosting service did not seem interested in the fact that pages that had not been touched for over a year were being infected.  These pages had different passwords, and and a couple of infected pages had never put into active use.  They were still being infected and re-infected.  Changing passwords did not prevent re-infection of web sites.  I feel the former hosting server has a problem and they did not seem interested in hearing about it.  I am tired of checking pages by downloading backup files to be checked by Norton at frequent intervals and uploading clean files when a problem is found.  The trojan seems to be a type that sends out spam e-mail about garments and garment accessories.  Hundreds of such items were added to the infected pages.  It is called downloader.  The new hosting service should remove that problem from all of my sites.

Many people have been added to the Emergency Road List.  It appears that CalSpeed has taken down the original list, which is probably well out of date by now.  The list is now updated, and if you are inclined to offer your shop send me a note and I will be happy to add you to the list.
