Lowering the front of the roadster
reprinted from the Roadster List

If you remove one coil, you will shorten the spring by about 2", but you'll also increase the spring rate, so the car will only be lowered by about 1". The stock spring rate is about 450 lb/in, with one collasped coil about 570 lbs/in, competition springs are 862 lb/in. You can see that the collasped springs will be softer than the comp springs, though I am running the comp springs with a comp sway bar and I think it's fine... Don't know what is better heating or cutting to collaspe the springs, I would take them to a good spring shop and have them do it. Also I would not remove more than one coil as you risk having the coils bind and perhaps fail in use -- not good.

Make sure you cut down the bump stops if you lower the front end, see Bob Sharps comp manual at http://www.datsun.org/roadster/info/

Here's a wild idea, haven't heard of anyone doing this, modify the lower spring perch to reduce the preload on the spring. You might get 1" out of this mod, with no change in the spring rate. Need to be careful to make sure the shock can extend this much and cut down the bump stops. Let us know what you decide.
