KYB Shocks

Here is a great Hint from Matt Silvey. Check out his great Restoration Site.

HINT: I am planning on installing KYB Gas Adjust shocks (the white high pressure ones). I have used them on many vehicles including a 1961 VW Karmann Ghia, a 1966 Ford Galaxie convertible and my current 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup. They are great shocks that have a lifetime warranty. However, according to KYB's catalog, they no longer make the rear shocks for the Roadster. After doing some research using several cross reference charts in several shock manufacturer catalogs, I found that the rear shocks off the 1965-1985 Datsun / Nissan 2 wheel drive pickup trucks were identical in all aspects to the Roadster shock with one exception. The fully extended length of the truck shock is slightly longer than the fully extended length of the Roadster shock (which allows for the longer suspension travel of the trucks). Compressed length, mounting hardware, diameter and all other aspects were the same.

KYB Gas Adjust Part Numbers
KG5447 (rear)
KG4528 (front)

Thanks MATT!

From the Roadster list someone wrote this:

Yes, both the GR-2 and Gas-a-Just fit through the lower shock mount hole, assuming you've jacked the suspension up properly. Otherwise the holes don't line up for the stock shocks, either.

The Gas-a-Just is $29.95 (rear) and $27.95 (front) at Summit Racing.

The fronts are listed as fitting Chrysler: 1980-83 Cordoba, 1982 New Yorker, 1982-89 Imperial, New Yorker, Fifth Avenue, 1977-81 LeBaron, Dodge: 1976-80 Aspen, 1977-89 Diplomat, 1977-88 Mirada, Nissan: 1962-70 1600/1800/2000 Roadsters, Plymouth: 1982-89 Gran Fury, 1976-80 Volare.

This implies that any front shock that fits any of the above should also fit the Roadster. There is no fitting info for the rears listed at Summit.
